If you like sand you’ll love Winterton on Sea. Not only is the beach covered in fine golden sand but it is backed by what are widely regarded as the best sand dunes in Norfolk. --> Despite being within half an hour of Great Yarmouth, Winterton is usually quiet, if not empty. That isn’t to say Winterton isn’t a popular beach, but even at its busiest there is so much sand here that you’ll not be short of space. Winterton is also a veritable haven for wildlife. Winterton Dunes National Nature Reserve is both a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and an area of outstanding natural beauty (ANOB). As well as being home to the rare Natterjack Toad the dunes are a haven for breeding and overwintering birds. Towards the Horsey end of the beach is home to a colony of grey seals. During the winter months the seals come ashore to give birth and you can see the pups on the beach with their mothers. Just inland from the beach is one of the first wind farms in the UK at Blood Hill. Whilst just offshore is another larger wind farm. All this should give a hint that it is often breezy along this stretch of coast so you might want to bring your windbreak.

Winterton on Sea Beach in Norfolk is a doggy delight! Pups are welcome year-round on this vast, sandy expanse – perfect for endless fetch and zoomies. Parking is available nearby, but facilities are limited, so pack accordingly. Swim safety can vary, so keep a close eye on your dog, especially with strong tides. This beach is brilliant for confident swimmers and big dogs who love space. Puppies, although welcome, might find the wide-open beach a bit overwhelming; keep them close. Our tip? Bring a windbreak, as it can get breezy enjoying all that Winterton on Sea has to offer!
