Winchelsea Beach

About This Place
Winchelsea Beach is a small, rural resort, much quieter than many of the more developed resorts along this stretch of the south coast. It was first developed as a resort in the early 20th century. --> The gently sloping beach is made up of shingle rather than sand, although when the tide is out a large area of level sand and mud is exposed.Β From the top of the sea wall there are views to the south-east towards Camber Sands and the Dungeness headland.Β Looking west, on clear days it is possible to see the red cliffs at Fairlight - a view worth catching in early morning sunlight. Behind the beach is the Rye Bay Caravan Park. The ancient town of Winchelsea, about one and a half miles inland from Winchelsea Beach was once a busy harbour-part of the Cinque-Port alliance.Β The old town was destroyed by floods in the 13th century, and today the sea has receded some distance from the town. Rye Harbour Nature Reserve lies a short walk to the east of the beach.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a tail-wagging beach day in East Sussex? We at DogParkUK recommend Winchelsea Beach! It's a fantastic spot because dogs are welcome all year round with no restrictions. The sand is mostly shingle, so bear that in mind for sensitive paws. Parking is available along the beach road. While there arenβt immediate facilities ON the beach, you'll find amenities a short drive away in Winchelsea. Be mindful of the tides as the sea can get rough. Winchelsea Beach is perfect for energetic dogs who love a good run. A top tip: bring water and a collapsible bowl to keep your pup hydrated.
