Watermouth Cove
π Ilfracombe, Devon
About This Place
Watermouth Bay is tucked away in a sheltered inlet between Combe Martin and Ilfracombe, and often overlooked. The small, natural harbour is protected by the long outcrop of Widmouth Head, and used by a mix of fishing boats and leisure craft. At its entrance stands an old lookout tower. --> At low tide, the beach reveals flat rocks, seaweed-covered ledges, and small patches of sand and shingle, ideal for exploring rock pools or launching a kayak. Surrounded by steep, wooded cliffs, the bay feels quite enclosed, with a sense of seclusion from the busier beaches nearby. Above the harbour, the grounds of the Victorian Watermouth Castle add to the setting, while the South West Coast Path runs along the cliff tops, offering wide views across the bay and out towards the Bristol Channel.
π‘ Our Take
We at DogParkUK think your pooch will love Watermouth Cove in Devon! This sandy beach welcomes dogs year-round, perfect for off-season zoomies and splashing. As parking can be limited, arrive early to snag a spot. While Watermouth itself has limited facilities, Ilfracombe is a short drive away for supplies. Generally safe for swimming, but always supervise, especially puppies. Watermouth Cove is ideal for confident dogs who enjoy exploring rock pools! Our tip: Check tide times beforehand for maximum sandy fun. Itβs a lovely, sheltered cove perfect for a relaxed doggy day out.
