About This Place
Not only does Walton-on-the-Naze have a fine sandy beach, it is also home to the second longest pier in Great Britain. --> The beach itself is a good sized stretch of sand dived up by various wooden groynes and a couple of breakwaters. As a bonus sand here is the perfect consistency for building sandcastles making it a popular choice with the kids. Walton’s beach is a good family beach; the gently shelving sand provides safe bathing and there is a seasonal lifeguard service. As a well established resort there are no shortage of facilities catering for beach-goers from classic seaside amusements to a number of beachside cafés. If you need anything else then you can easily pop into Walton town for shops, good pubs and food - including a pie and mash shop! As you walk away from the pier in either direction the beach becomes gradually quieter. A mile or so north is “the Naze” itself. An unspoilt headland that is designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, the Naze consists of grassland, scrub and cliffs containing a range of fossils. Walton-on-the-Naze’s beach is also nice and easy to get to. There is plenty of parking nearby and the town’s train station is practically on the beach.
