About This Place

Upton Towans is the central section of the stretch of beach sand dunes that make up Hayle’s “3 miles of golden sand”. It is hard to identify where one part of this sandy expanse starts and stops. The official answer would be between Mexico Towans and Gwithian, but that probably isn’t much help - fortunately it doesn’t really matter! --> The Towans are an open aspect beach which are somewhat exposed to the surf. Upton Towans was the site of an explosives factory in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is hence alternatively known as Dynamite Towans. You can still see some of the old buildings in the dunes. It’s now a nature reserve.

💡 Our Take

Hey dog lovers! We at DogParkUK highly recommend Upton Towans in Cornwall for your seaside adventures. This beach welcomes dogs all year round with no restrictions, making it paw-fect for spontaneous trips. Expect lovely soft sand for zoomies and playful digging! While parking is available, nearby facilities are scarce, so pack water and poop bags. Swimming can be risky with strong currents; keep a close eye on your furry friend. This expansive beach is ideal for big dogs needing space, but also offers calmer areas for puppies to gently explore. Always check tide times before you go!
