About This Place

Thurstaston Beach sits on the sandy shoreline of the Dee Estuary looking out over the water to Wales and the Clwydian Hills. Sitting at the foot of clay cliffs this sand and shingle beach is wonderfully unspoilt. --> Swimming at Thurstaston is not recommended, in fact there are signs up to warn against it. Neighbouring West Kirby is a much safer proposition as there is a lifeguard and a tidal bathing pool. Strong, fast moving tides and the presence of quicksand are further hazards, so visitors should think twice before heading out too far into the estuary.Sitting behind the beach is the Wirral Country Park, a large area of parkland with woods and picnic areas. The park is home to a cafe and has plenty of parking for the beach. Also running behind the beach is the Wirral Way. This 12 mile walking trail follows the old railway line which was closed with the Beeching cuts back in the early 1960s. The route runs alongside the Dee before heading inland to Hooton.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Pack your bags, paw-rents! DogParkUK recommends Thurstaston Beach in the Wirral, Merseyside, for year-round doggy fun. Your furry friend will adore the sandy stretches perfect for zoomies, and the "no restrictions" policy means ultimate freedom. Remember though, this is an unsupervised beach so swim safety is paramount for you and your pup. Parking is readily available.
