About This Place

This beautiful stretch of wide, sandy beach lies adjacent to the Torness nuclear power station, about 32 miles south of Edinburgh, just off the A1. --> The beach is about 400 metres long and is backed by low, grassy dunes. It is very popular with fishermen and is also used for bathing and windsurfing. There is a small caravan park immediately behind the beach.  The area has some good walks, and the John Muir Way passes nearby.  In May 1950, this beach gained brief notoriety when 147 beached wales became stranded here. Free parking with toilets can be found close to the caravan park.  Other amenities such as cafes, restaurants and shops can be found in Dunbar, about 6 miles to the north.
