The Bar Beach
π Hugh Town, Cornwall
About This Place
The Bar is a unique beach, being essentially a spit of pale white sand, which at low tide connects the islands of St Agnes and Gugh. When the tide is out, it is an excellent spot for bathing in the beautiful, turquoise, shallow waters, or for exploring the rock pools around the beach.Β --> However, when the tide comes in, fast flowing water covers the sand, splitting the two islands. At high tide the currents are strong and swimming or attempting to cross can be dangerous and should not be attempted. Whilst the island of Gugh is mostly wild, there are a few facilities on St Agnes such as a post office, bed and breakfast, and cafΓ©, which can be found along Old Lane, the road which leads to the beach. Public toilets are available at St Agnes quay, and there is also a pub. From here, boats take visitors to and from the larger island of St Maryβs.
