About This Place
Situated on the Minginish Peninsula on the west coast of the Isle of Skye is Talisker Bay. Reputed to be the best beach on the island this is quite a claim for somewhere with as much stunning scenery as Skye. --> Talisker Bay beach certainly has a dramatic setting. Located at the foot of a wide green valley tall, sheer cliffs covered in greenery rise up to either side of the beach. To the right hand side of the beach a waterfall plummets down the sheer face. To the other side an impressive sea stack rises out of the sea off the headland. This can be accessed at low tide by scrambling over the rocks.Just to complete the grandeur of the location, you may be lucky enough to spot golden eagles wheeling high overhead. The beach itself sits in front of a large area of grassland. Above the high tide line it is covered in flat rounded rocks, but as the tide drops a large expanse of marbled grey sand is revealed. Talisker Bay s generally quiet and the wide sands at low tide only accentuate this. This is a particularly magical place on a fine summerβs evening. Facing almost due west it is a perfect location to take in the sunset. The bay lends its name to the famous Talisker whisky. However the distillery is located a few miles east in Carbost on the edge of Loch Harport.
