Sugary and Castle Cove
π Dartmouth, Devon
About This Place
Overlooked by Dartmouth Castle, Castle Cove is a tiny, relatively wild, sand and pebble beach looking out onto the mouth of the River Dart. The beach is backed by cliffs, rocks and trees. --> It can be easy to miss because the beach is hidden by trees until visitors are almost on top of it and there are no signposts.Β The beach is about a mile south of the town of Dartmouth. The closest parking is at Dartmouth Castle, about 100 metres from the beach. The castle is a historic fortress overlooking the River Dart estuary and across to Kingswear Castle on the other side. There are toilets and a cafΓ© at the castle. From the castle car park, access to the beach is a 5/10 minute walk down a steep path with steps. It is not really suitable for pushchairs or those with mobility problems.Β Along the path that leads from the castle there are a few other coves: Sugary Cove, Deadmans Cove, and Ladies Cove, all adding to the excitement for would-be-explorers. The small beach disappears during high tide, so remember to plan your trip around this. Dogs are currently welcome on the beach all year round.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly beach in the UK? Sugary and Castle Cove is perfect for your furry friends! We don't currently have much information about it, but if it allows dogs year-round, and with no restrictions, it sounds great! We recommend checking local sources about sand quality. Safe swimming is important, especially for energetic pups! Practical tip: Always bring fresh water for your dog, as seawater can be dehydrating. Depending on the environment of the beach, Sugary and Castle Cove could be ideal for boisterous big dogs needing space to run, or even older dogs that prefer gentle exploration! Enjoy your trip!
