About This Place

Nestling between Sully Island and Lavernock Point, the bay here is backed by steep cliffs at one end and by dense trees at the other. The terrain is a mixture of sand, pebbles and rocks. At low tide a large area of mud and wet sand is exposed with seaweed-covered stones. --> The beach has views over the Bristol Channel towards Avon and Somerset. Also visible from the beach is Flat Holm, a limestone island which is the most southern point in Wales. Steep Holm, the island behind it, is technically in England. The rocky cliffs behind the eastern end of the beach can be unstable and should be avoided.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Looking for a fuss-free beach day in Wales with your furry best friend? DogParkUK recommends St Marys Well Bay! This sandy beach welcomes dogs year-round, making it perfect for spontaneous seaside adventures. Parking is available nearby, though facilities are limited. Swim safety can vary depending on tides, so keep a close eye on your pup. St Marys Well Bay is wonderful for confident swimmers, especially larger breeds who enjoy open water. However, the lack of amenities might make it less suitable for very young puppies. Tip: bring your own water and shade, especially during hot weather!
