About This Place

Set at the at the mouth of three large river estuaries St Ishmael is a very secluded, mostly shingle beach. There are some sandy patches which become more frequent at the western end of the beach. The beach is surrounded by cliffs, and the coastal path that passes the beach offers excellent views of the surrounding rugged coastline and out across Carmarthen Bay. --> The closest parking is in the village of St Ishmael, about half a mile from the beach. The beach can be accessed only across fields or along the coastal path. Due to the remote location, the beach has no facilities, but a pub with a beer garden can be found in the village, and there is a bed and breakfast nearby. Carmarthen Bay is a Special Protected Area, and there is a variety of wildlife in the area, including many water birds that make the nearby river estuaries home. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path that passes the beach is part of the 870- mile-long Wales Coast Path.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Looking for a dog-friendly beach in Wales? St Ishmael Beach, in Pembrokeshire, is a fantastic choice! Your dog will love the soft sand and being allowed to run free year-round with no seasonal restrictions. While facilities are limited, you'll find convenient parking nearby. The swimming can be a little rough sometimes, so keep a close eye on your dog in the water. This is a great spot for energetic dogs who love to run and aren’t fazed by the waves but maybe not ideal for timid puppies. Tip: Bring your own water and doggie bags!
