Spittal Beach
π Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland
About This Place
Spittal lies on the Northumberland coast about half a mile south of Berwick-upon-Tweed.Β Visitors have been coming here since the 18th century, when Spittal was a popular spa and bathing resort. --> The predominantly sandy beach is backed by a promenade and stretches down from the mouth of the River Tweed to the cliffs at Bear Head and lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.Β Wading birds can usually be found here and it is not uncommon to spot seals bobbing up and down in the surf, or even the occasional dolphin.Β The Northumberland Coast Path runs down from Berwick to Holy Island and beyond that down to Druridge Bay. The town has a family fun centre, shops and places to eat.Β More extensive facilities can be found in historic Berwick-upon-Tweed. Cars can be parked at the Spittal Beach Car Park on S. Greenwich Road.
π‘ Our Take
We at DogParkUK think your furry friend will adore Spittal Beach, located on the Northumberland coast! Dogs are very welcome here all year round, making it a fantastic spot for off-season adventures. The soft sand is perfect for zoomies and digs. Parking is available nearby, though facilities are limited. Swim safety needs assessing cautiously, especially for inexperienced swimmers. This unspoiled, open beach is brilliant for big dogs who need space to run, or those who simply love to dig. A useful tip: Always bring fresh water, the sea may be dangerous for them to drink.
