Southwick Beach
📍 Brighton, East Sussex
About This Place
Southwick Beach lies immediately to the east of historic Shoreham Harbour, where the River Adur enters the sea. The beach here slopes gently into the sea and is mainly shingle, although at low tide, an area of wet sand and shingle is exposed. As is typical for this stretch of the coast, the beach is intersected by a number of wooden groynes. A significant amount has been spent on improving the sea defences here in recent years. --> Behind the beach is a promenade, on which can be found a café. From here, concrete steps lead down to the beach. Behind the promenade is a road and a mix of warehouses and light industrial buildings. The beach is used for fishing, windsurfing and bathing, although there is no zoning here.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly sandy escape in West Sussex? We at DogParkUK recommend Southwick Beach! With no seasonal restrictions, your furry friend can enjoy the sand and sea year-round. Parking is conveniently nearby, though facilities are limited, so bring your own doggy bags and water. The calm waters make this a great spot for dogs who enjoy a paddle, but keep a close eye on strong tides. Southwick is ideal for energetic dogs who like running on the beach, but equally good for timid dogs to potter about safely. Pro Tip: Check tide times before you go!
