South Landing beach lies on the south side of Flamborough Head, just over 3 miles north-east of Bridlington, within an area which has been designated a Local Nature Reserve. --> The shingle and pebble beach here is backed by grassy, chalk cliffs, which provide beachgoers with some degree of shelter from the sea breezes. At low tide, a number of rockpools, teeming with crabs, small fish and other wildlife can be found in and around the chalk-reef. South Landing is also a good place for bird watching. In the summer guillemots, gannets, sand martins and fulmars can all be found here. In the winter there is a chance of spotting eider ducks. There are a number of walking trails in the area, including some cliff-top walks with good views over Bridlington Bay. A car park with a picnic site can be found just off South Sea Road. Beyond this point vehicles are prohibited, but the road continues past RNLI Flamborough Lifeboat Station and down to the beach. The nearby Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Living Seas Centre is worth a visit to learn more about the ocean and the creatures that live there. You will also find a cafe and toilets here (only open when cafe is).
