Soar Mill Cove
📍 Salcombe, Devon
About This Place
This small, remote beach is a genuine rural idyll and one of the prettiest in Devon. Soar Mill Cove is surrounded by dramatic rocks and cliffs and the craggy heath of Bolt Head. To the back of the cove are the gentle, rolling green hills of the South Hams. --> When the tide recedes, a small area of pristine, golden sand is exposed - just right for building sand castles or sunbathing. A stream runs down the centre of the beach as it shelves gently into the sea. There are also some rock pools exposed at low tide where it might be fun to hunt for crabs and anemones. Other wildlife in the area includes some interesting wild flowers and also a range of species of birds to observe. Look out for ravens, shags, kestrels and peregrine falcons.Canoes and small boats sailing from Salcombe often stop off in the cove which is just around Bolt Head, to the east. There are no facilities on the beach and you will be unlikely to get a phone signal here. There is no road access directly to the beach. Soar Mill can be reached either by taking the South West Coast Path from Salcombe or by taking the steep path (about 2 km long) from The Soar Mill Cove Hotel. There are some parking spaces at the hotel. Either pay the parking attendant, if one is there, or enter the hotel and pay inside.
