Smallmouth Beach
๐ Weymouth, Dorset
About This Place
This little sandy cove is situated at Ferrybridge looking out over Portland Harbour. It sits between Weymouth and the causeway leading to Portland, making it easy to reach yet often overlooked. --> The beach has views across the harbour and towards the iconic pebble bank of Chesil Beach. At low tide, more sand and exposed rocks appear, creating small pools that can make for some exploring. The nearby Fleet Lagoon, a protected area, is home to various bird species and adds to the natural appeal of the area. Smallmouth is best-known as a launching spot for kitesurfers. The calm waters also make it ideal for paddleboarding and kayaking when the wind isnโt up. While swimming is possible in the sheltered waters of the cove you should be aware of the strong currents running through the Ferry Bridge as water flows in and out of the Fleet Lagoon. Smallmouth Beach has no facilities, although there are a couple of cafes within walking distance. Itโs a good choice for those looking for a quieter spot away from the summer tourist crowds. That said, this is a popular beach with locals so can fill up on sunny summerโs days.
