Skipsea Beach
π Hornsea, Yorkshire
About This Place
The narrow, sandy beach at Skipsea lies on the East Riding coast, between Hornsea and Bridlington. There has been some serious coastal erosion here in recent years. A variety of sea defences have been built but most have failed and the erosion marches on at a seemingly unstoppable rate with the cliffs being washed away by the sea. --> The beach is backed by Holderness Cliffs, above which is a static caravan park. The beachβs rural location, and the difficulty accessing the shoreline, ensures that this beach never gets too busy. Birdwatching and fishing are quite popular here. Skipsea village has a pub, a service station and a post office. Nearby Skipsea Castle is a good example of an early Norman motte and bailey fortification. Today only the earthenworks and an impressive mound remain.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly beach day in the East Riding of Yorkshire? We heartily recommend Skipsea Beach! Dogs are welcome all year round to bound across the soft, sandy shores, perfect for zoomies. Parking is available nearby, though facilities are limited so pack your own water and poo bags. Swim safety can vary with the tide, so keep a close eye on your furry pals, especially puppies. Its open expanse makes it ideal for big dogs who love to run, but be mindful of potential strong winds; they can be a bit much for anxious pups! Enjoy!
