About This Place

Sheerness beach is found on the northern coast of the Isle of Sheppey, where the rivers Thames and Medway meet the North Sea.  From the shore there are views across the estuary, towards Southend-on-Sea and the Essex coastline.   --> The beach here is mainly shingle, with some patches of sand, and at low tide crabs, shrimps and other sea creatures may be found in the pools that become exposed. A number of groynes stretch out into the sea.  The beach is backed by a substantial sea wall, which forms a promenade, used by walkers and cyclists. Along the promenade, there are benches and steps leading down to the beach at regular intervals.  Access for those with mobility problems may be difficult. At high tide, the sea comes all the way up to the sea wall and the beach can be entirely submerged, so it is best to check tidal tables before visiting. The beach is kept clean and has regularly been awarded Blue Flag status.  This is a good place to come to watch cargo vessels sailing up and down the busy shipping lanes.  It is also used by families, particularly during the summer months, when crabbers and shell hunters enjoy foraging among the shingle at low tide. A children’s play area with a sandpit and a skateboard park can be found close by.Although there are no facilities at the beach, a McDonalds and a branch of Tesco are both a short walk away and the town’s shops, cafes and restaurants are within easy reach of the beach.

💡 Our Take

Looking for a simple seaside escape in Kent with your furry pal? Sheerness Beach welcomes dogs year-round, ensuring endless sandy paws-abilities! While a detailed description is missing, the lack of restrictions is paw-sitive news. Park nearby and pop into Sheerness for facilities. We advise checking the tide times before you go as it fully covers the beach at High Tide. Sheerness is best for dogs who love a long walk and aren't nervous around open water; its vastness may be overwhelming for smaller pups but great for big dogs with lots of energy to burn.
