About This Place
The coastal popular resort of Shanklin is located in the south-east corner of the island, at the southernmost tip of Sandown Bay. Golden sands are protected by a high sea wall with a traditional paved promenade creating the vision of a traditional English seaside. The pier was lost in a storm in 1987 and the location is now marked with a park area with benches. --> The beach itself is safe and sandy, with clear water and plenty of parking nearby. Protection from the prevailing winds is provided by the headland of Dunnose Point. Thereโs a slipway down to the beach and a garden with food kiosk. You can also reach the beach on foot by walking down the traffic-free road (The Chine) from Shanklin Old Village, but itโs quite steep. Lining the beach is an Esplanade with cafรฉs, beach shops and traditional beach huts. Activities include crazy golf, go-carts, bowling and an amusement arcade providing something for all seasons. The south end of the beach is overlooked by small hotels, pubs and restaurants. Heading further south towards Shanklin Chine the cliffs rise up over the beach. At low tide, you can walk from here around the headland to Luccombe Beach.
๐ก Our Take
Looking for a simple, dog-friendly escape? DogParkUK recommends Shanklin Beach! Located on the Isle of Wight, this sandy beach welcomes dogs year-round, making it paw-fect for spontaneous getaways. The soft sand is ideal for zoomies and paddling. Parking is nearby, but facilities are limited so pack water. Swim safety can vary with tides, so keep a close eye on your pups. Shanklin is fantastic for confident swimmers, but puppies should stick to shallow water. Be aware that although there are no current restrictions, always be mindful of others and scoop the poop!
