About This Place

The delightful Shaldon Beach lies on one of the most dramatic parts of Devon’s south coast, at the mouth of the River Teign. The beach is a mixture of red sand with some areas of shingle and slopes gently into the calm, blue waters of the estuary.  --> The coast beyond the beach is backed by impressive sandstone cliffs from which there are great views across the river and along the coast beyond Teignmouth.  There are some pretty shells to be found here. Although there is no lifeguard here, Shaldon beach is a haven for watersport enthusiasts. Sailing, swimming, canoeing and rowing are all popular here. Shaldon is also a good family beach with plenty of amenities close to hand and all the usual beach activities including shell collecting. When the tide is in, the beach makes a good spot to watch the boats coming into the harbour at Teignmouth.  If you fancy a trip over to Teignmouth, or visa versa, there is a passenger ferry operating from the beach here.  The village of Shaldon itself has some good places to eat and drink as well as plenty of traditional seaside entertainments.  A variety of events are organized throughout the year, including a water carnival in early August and Shaldon Regatta, which takes place over 9 days at the end of August.  The Regatta - possibly one of the oldest in the country - offers something for everybody.  There are plenty of beach games, including an organized pillow fight and all sorts of nautical activities.  Children will love the plastic duck race and the sandcastle completion.

💡 Our Take

Shaldon Beach, located in Devon, is a delightful spot for dog lovers and their furry companions. This pebbly beach welcomes dogs year-round, making it a fantastic choice for those wanting to enjoy the sea breeze with their pups in any season. Its calm waters are perfect for a swim, but do keep an eye on your adventurous swimmers. Nearest parking is just a short walk away, so plan accordingly. It's especially ideal for big dogs who need space to roam freely. Always bring water and snacks as facilities are limited. Happy exploring from DogParkUK!
