About This Place

This area of beach forms the western side of the long stretch of shingle around the Manhood Peninsula, a headland at the most southerly point of Sussex.  The peninsula is only slightly above sea level and the area is at risk from significant coastal erosion.  --> From the beach there are views out into the Channel and across the Solent towards the Isle of Wight.  The beach itself is mainly shingle, with some patches of sand at low tide.  There are a range of sea defences in place here, including a large number of groynes along the beach. The village of Selsey has shops and other (limited) facilities.  It has a long tradition of fishing and still has its own fleet of fishing boats.
