About This Place

This is one of the three designated beaches next to the resort of Seaton Carew.  Also known as Carr House Sands, the North beach lies between Seaton Carew’s main beach and Hartlepool Marina. An excellent promenade runs from the marina down along the beach.   --> At low tide a wide expanse of golden sand is revealed.  The beach slopes gently into the water into the sandy seabed and is used by a variety of beach and water sports enthusiasts as well as walkers and fishermen.The 400 metre stretch of the beach around Newburn Bridge is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.  Hartlepool Submerged Forest was once an area of land, dating back to the period when Britain was joined to the European landmass.  The peat beds lying below the sea here was once covered in trees and peat bog.  At low tide, the peat beds are sometimes revealed and tree stumps dating back thousands of years have been found.  Archaeologists have also found animal bones, flint tools and other evidence of human activity stretching back into pre-historic times.South of the beach lies Greatham Creek, also within the Teesmouth National Nature Reserve.  The creek is home to a colony of seals.
