Seaton Carew Beach
📍 Hartlepool, Durham
About This Place
Lying on the North Sea coast between Hartlepool and the mouth of the River Tees, Seaton Carew Beach provides a good stretch of sand. The beach is popular with bathers and families looking for a good beach during the summer season. --> In winter the vast expanse of sand revealed at low tide is popular with walkers and anyone wanting to blow away the cobwebs in the bracing North Sea winds. Whatever the season this is a great location for golfers with Seaton Carew Golf Links situated just behind the beach. There are plenty of places to park and visitors will find arcades and a range of other low-key beach resort attractions along the beach. In Seaton Carew itself, just behind the beach, are some very popular chip shops and ice-cream parlours. In the 18th and 19th centuries Seaton Carew became a fashionable holiday resort, attracting gentry, wealthy Quakers and nobility alike. Today views from the beach remind visitors of the areas more recent industrial heritage. Although some might find the distant chimneys and cranes detract from the natural beauty of the seascape, they actually blend in quite well and add a touch of drama to the sea views. For those who don’t fancy walking on the sand, a splendid promenade runs adjacent to the beach all the way from Hartlepool Marina to Seaton Carew. The esplanade dates back to the areas heyday in 1905. North of Carr House Sands, Hartlepool Submerged Forest is an underwater peat area containing the remains of tree-trunks which are over 5,000 years old. The peaty flats are usually hidden under a thin layer of sand.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a fantastic, unrestricted dog beach in County Durham? We at DogParkUK recommend Seaton Carew Beach! Your furry pals are welcome year-round on this sandy stretch, making it perfect for zoomies no matter the season. Parking is readily available nearby, and while facilities right on the beach are limited, you'll find shops and cafes a short walk away. Do be aware that tides can come in quickly here, so keep a close eye on your dog's access to the water! We reckon Seaton Carew is a winner for playful pups and bigger breeds needing space to run.
