The shingle beach at Saltdean has been created underneath the white chalk cliffs facing the sea by a collection of rock groynes which line the beach.  The movement of the currents collects the shingle from the longshore drift, resulting in a wide, popular beach. Here visitors can enjoy a range of activities such as swimming and snorkelling, as well as many water sports including surfing, canoeing, and sailing. In addition, there is a large promenade for walking beneath the spectacular white cliffs.  --> At low tide, many rock pools are uncovered, providing an excellent opportunity for children, and families to explore them in search of marine wildlife.  Atop the cliffs there is a grassy area, offering excellent views over the coastline and opportunities for a picnic, as well as a path and cycle lane which heads along the coast to Brighton to the west. A café overlooks the beach from this cliff-top position, and further facilities such as shops and restaurants can be found a very short walk away along Longridge Avenue in Saltdean village centre. The village also boast a superb lido, directly opposite the beach. Parking can be found along Saltdean Park Road. The beach is accessed by crossing Marine Drive and descending the long ramp that takes visitors down the cliff side.
