About This Place
Saltburn is a seaside resort with a rich heritage dating back to the Victorian heyday and beyond. The town was developed off the back of the Industrial Revolution and the local iron industry in particular. Whilst the boom times may have long passed many of the trappings of the Victorian era remain. --> There is the pier; once 1,500ft in length, but following many years of neglect and a few disasters, the pier stands at less than half this length. Situated directly behind the pier is Saltburn’s cliff tramway. This was constructed to provide an easy route up and down the 120ft cliff for the delicate ladies of the day, allowing them to be wafted down the cliff to their waiting bathing machines below. The lift still operates and is the UK’s oldest water balanced funicular lift. Other Victorian highlights include the formal Italian Gardens which are served by a miniature railway. Saltburn beach itself is a sand and shingle affair backed by a promenade and with plenty of facilities close at hand. Saltburn is home to one of the best surf spots along this stretch of North Sea coast. Facing directly north it picks up more swell than neighbouring spots. It is also protected from the wind by the imposing headland of Huntcliff at the eastern end.
💡 Our Take
Saltburn Beach in Redcar and Cleveland is brilliant for dogs, being dog-friendly year-round! With its sandy stretch, it's paw-fect for zoomies. Parking’s available nearby, making access easy. While information on facilities is lacking, Saltburn town’s amenities are a short walk. Remember to check tide times before heading out since certain areas can get cut off! The sea's great for a splash, though be mindful of currents. This beach is ideal for confident swimmers and larger breeds. Puppies might find the open space overwhelming, but it's fantastic for tiring out energetic dogs! DogParkUK approves!
