Salmon Rock Beach is a small, sheltered beach in Portballintrae, just west of the town’s harbour. Set on Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coast, the beach is only a couple of miles west of the iconic Giant’s Causeway itself. --> The name of the beach comes from a rocky outcrop that extends into the sea which was once used for salmon fishing. The beach itself is a mix of sand, shingle and rocks, backed by grassy slopes and cliffs, giving it a slightly enclosed feel. Salmon Rock is a popular spot for paddling, sunbathing and exploring the wealth of rock pools that emerge at low tide. The water here is pretty clear and clean, making it suitable for swimming on calm days - although please note, there is no lifeguard. The same applies for snorkelling and diving, with the rocky bay providing lots of interest. Facilities near the beach are limited, but the village of Portballintrae is only a short walk away, offering parking, toilets and cafés.
