About This Place

One of a trio of bays on the west coast of Islay, Saligo Bay is a beautiful stretch of pristine sand punctuated by rocks. This is a place of moods and it’s never the same two days in a row. On a calm summer’s day it can be relaxing place of tranquil beauty. But when the winter storms roll in this exposed coast takes the full force of the Atlantic swells. --> Saligo Bay is known for its light, which makes it a favourite of photographers. Whether this be a ray of sun bursting through black clouds or the clear blues of a spring afternoon it always looks special. Facing west means it is a great spot for sunsets too.Looking north from the beach you’ll get a great view of the Sleeping Giant, a rock formation which passes a resemblance to a huge giant’s head looking to the heavens. On the other hand some people refer to it as the “Sydney Opera House” as it has a similar silhouette. Check the 4th photo and you can decide…

💡 Our Take

We at DogParkUK need to tell you about Saligo Bay, a hidden gem on the Isle of Islay, Scotland! Your furry friend will adore being welcome *all year round* on this beautiful sandy beach. Parking is available, making access easy. With no nearby facilities, pack water and snacks! This shallow bay is generally safe for swimming, but always supervise your pup. Saligo's vast open space makes it ideal for zoomies from bigger breeds. We recommend keeping a close eye on playful puppies near the water's edge. A fantastic spot for a tranquil, dog-friendly adventure!
