About This Place
The land around the coastal village of Ryhope, south of Sunderland, is known to have been farmed for around a thousand years. Today the village has a number of pubs and is home to the Ryhope Engine Museum.Β --> The small beach here was once a popular, sandy beach, but coastal erosion has resulted in the loss of much of the sand and today the beach is a mixture of sandy patches, with pebbles and rocks from the crumbling cliffs backing the beach.Β Durhamβs Heritage Coastal Footpath runs behind the beach. There are no facilities here, at all, but places to eat and other amenities can be found in nearby Seaham. The beach is used by fishermen and dog walkers. Take note of tide times, which are posted at the access points to the beach.
π‘ Our Take
Ryhope South Beach, located near Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, is a delightful spot for dog lovers. Its wide expanse of golden sand offers plenty of room for pups to frolic leash-free throughout the year. Convenient roadside parking makes it an easy visit. While facilities are sparse on the beach, nearby Sunderland provides additional amenities. The gentle tide makes it safer for watery play, but always monitor pups around the water. Particularly suited for big dogs that love expansive spaces, it's a welcoming haven. We recommend bringing your own water, as facilities are limited. Enjoy this tranquil, dog-friendly retreat!
