About This Place

Rhos-on-Sea sits on the edge of the three miles of Colwyn Bay. From here there are great views along the sweeping coast towards Rhyl and Prestatyn. --> The little beach here is a mix of sand and shingle that sits within an offshore breakwater which forms a small harbour. The water here is clean and relatively safe for bathing, although there is no lifeguard service in operation. The beach here was known locally as the Rhos Abbey Hotel beach. However, the hotel which dominated the north-west end of the bay from 1898 was demolished in 2001 and replaced with a block of flats. Behind the beach is a promenade with the town beyond offering plenty of facilities - a pleasant spot to take an afternoon stroll, taking in the shops, cafes and kiosks. As well as a range of sea birds, it is not uncommon for the occasional seal or even a dolphin to be spotted in the bay.Β  The beach is sheltered by a breakwater and is popular with families, who come here in summer to play in the sand and relax by the water.Β  The Rhyl Flats wind farm can usually be seen out beyond the bay.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Rhos-on-Sea Beach in Colwyn Bay, located in Conwy County, is a hidden gem for dog lovers. This sandy stretch allows dogs to roam off-leash year-round, making it perfect for playful puppies or energetic big dogs. With no seasonal restrictions, your furry friends can enjoy splashing in the sea anytime. Parking is conveniently close, but be mindful of beach access points as they can be steep. Facilities are limited nearby, so pack essentials. This beach offers a serene environment, ideal for anxious dogs needing a relaxed outing.
