Priory Bay, Caldey Island
π Tenby, Glamorgan
About This Place
Priory Bay is a wide sandy beach set on an island a mile off the coast of Tenby. Caldey Island is owned by Cistercian (trappist) monks and is home to a surprisingly grand monastery. The only way to reach the island is by taking the 20 minute boat ride from Tenbyβs Castle Beach - private boat landings are not permitted. --> The landing quay is right on the beach at Priory Bay and for many there seems little point of exploring further than this lovely beach with its golden sand backed by low dunes. The beach is generally considered quite safe for swimming and has a good range of facilities in the nearby village including a cafe and disabled toilets. The boat service to Priory Bay runs on weekdays from Easter until October, and Saturdays as well from May to September.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly beach gem? DogParkUK recommends Priory Bay on beautiful Caldey Island, near Tenby in Pembrokeshire! Your furry friend can frolic year-round on this sandy haven β perfect for zoomies! Though remote, its unspoiled nature makes it great for dogs. Parking is on the mainland, accessed by ferry β plan ahead. Facilities are limited, and nearest cafes are back in the village, so pack supplies. The calm, shallow waters are ideal for puppies and less confident swimmers, but be mindful of tides. Keep them on-lead near the monastery. Priory Bay is paradise!
