Portmahomack Beach
📍 Dornoch, Highland
About This Place
This lovely sheltered beach lies on the western edge of the pretty seaside village of Portmahomack on the Tarbat peninsula. This area is in the Moray Firth conservation area and dolphins and even whales might be spotted out at sea. --> Although on the eastern coast, the beach faces west, making it a good destination for visitors looking for attractive sunsets. The beach is mainly sandy, backed by sea-grasses and curves gently round the bay. In the warmer months it is used for watersport enthusiasts. There are lots of good walks nearby. The Tarbat Ness Lighthouse, one of the tallest of its kind in the British Isles lies at the tip of the peninsula. There is a caravan park, with easy access to the beach. There are quite a few interesting historical sites in the locality. This area was an important hub during the time of the Picts although these were probably driven out by Viking raiders. The Tarbat Discovery Centre is well worth a visit.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a relaxed beach day with your furry pal? DogParkUK recommends Portmahomack Beach, nestled in the Highlands of Scotland. It's a sandy haven where dogs are welcome year-round! Perfect for energetic breeds who love a good run. While a shop is nearby, take water and poo bags so you're self-sufficient. Swim safety is unknown, so keep a close eye on your dog in the water, particularly with strong currents. With its wide-open space, it's ideal for dogs who enjoy off-leash freedom, and even puppies, provided they have good recall. Let them sniff, dig, and play – happy tails guaranteed!
