Portkil / Meikleross Beach
π Gourock, Cornwall
About This Place
Portkil (otherwise known as Meikleross) is a long beach on a fairly remote part of the Strathclyde coastline overlooking Portkil Bay and the Upper Firth of Clyde. There are views across to the town of Greenock and the surrounding hills on the far side. The water is popular for boating, whilst the coast is popular for walkers. The pebbly beach is backed by a coastal path and hilly scenery. --> It can be possible to park along the road at the western end of the beach and access the beach directly, but the closest car park is in the village of Kilcreggan, about a mile to the west. There is a coastal path from the village to the beach. The village has facilities such as shops, cafes, and a post office. There is also a pier. A ferry service operates from the village, to Gourock, from where visitors can travel to Glasgow by train.
π‘ Our Take
We at DogParkUK think your furry pals will adore Portkil/Meikleross Beach! Located near Argyll and Bute, Scotland, it's open to dogs year-round, offering sandy fun and bracing sea air. With no summer restrictions, it's paws-up for us! Parking is available, though nearby facilities are scarce, so pack accordingly. This beach is ideal for dogs who love splashing about, but keep a close eye as swim safety isn't actively monitored. We recommend it for confident swimmers, big dogs, and those who enjoy a good run. Remember to bring poop bags and enjoy this coastal gem!
