About This Place

Known locally as Cot Valley, Porthnanven is a rocky little cove in the far west of Cornwall near Cape Cornwall. The beach lies at the end of a long, winding valley which passes from lush greenery to mining-scarred terrain. Just off the coast here are the Brisons - two large islets which are home to numerous sea birds. --> What makes Porthnanven special are the boulders that make up the foreshore. These huge granite rocks have been worn smooth over the years with many now almost spherical. So popular were these rocks that the council had to stop people removing them to use as garden ornaments.Β  Cot Valley lies on the Southwest Coast Path, and is a popular stop off for walkers.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Porthnanven Beach, located near St Just in Cornwall, is a delightful haven for dogs, boasting dog-friendly access all year round. With its pebble and sand mix, it offers a unique texture underfoot for curious pups. There’s convenient on-street parking, although spaces can fill up fast, so arriving early is advised. The lack of restrictions makes it perfect for adventurous big dogs and lively puppies seeking a playful romp. However, be mindful of the strong tides, especially for less confident swimmers. While there are no immediate facilities, the nearby small town of St Just caters well to visitors' needs.
