Porthlysgi Beach
π Haverfordwest, Glamorgan
About This Place
Located towards the tip of the St Davidβs peninsula this is one of the most westerly beaches in Wales. Porthlysgi is set in an idyllic cove backed by low grassy cliffs this is a beautifully tranquil spot. --> At high tide the beach is mostly shingle but as the tide drops away a stretch of golden sand is revealed, along with an abundance of rockpools. The clean, clear water here is inviting and this is generally a safe spot for a swim (although take care as there may be no one to save you!). The bay in which Porthlysgi sits is divided by a small headland with the smaller, less accessible Porth Coch BΓ’ch beach sitting to the east. This slightly smaller cove is even more exclusive with a low tide scramble across the rocks the only way of getting there. Just off the mouth of the bay is the rugged little island of Carreg Yr Esgob (Bishop Rock). It is said that the name of the cove comes from Irish warrior who came ashore at Porthlysgi and went on to kill the local Celtic chieftain.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a pawsome, unrestricted beach in Wales? We at DogParkUK recommend Porthlysgi! Though we lack some details, the big draw is dogs are welcome year-round. We imagine it's sandy - perfect for digging! While info on parking and nearby facilities is scarce, come prepared. Its unrestricted nature makes it ideal for confident, well-behaved dogs. However, if you have easily worried pups, plan ahead. Remember to always check tide times; exposed beaches can quickly become dangerous, especially for smaller dogs. Come enjoy some freedom on the Welsh coast!
