Porthgwidden is perhaps less well known than St Ives’ other sandy beaches. All of these have a different character and the same can be said of Porthgwidden. --> Located between the harbour and Porthmeor beach, Porthgwidden sits in the shelter of ‘the Island’. This gives the little beach here a rather cosy feel and makes it a bit of a suntrap. As you would expect from any beach in St Ives there is plenty of fine, golden sand here. To the back of the beach are a row of two-storey 1930s beach huts along with a little cafe and toilets. The beach is also within a matter of metres from a large carpark. The sea is generally much calmer than it is around the corner at Porthmeor. However, there can be some quite powerful waves here and extra care should be taken as there is no lifeguard service.
