Porthgwarra Beach
π Penzance, Cornwall
About This Place
This secluded little cove is tucked away just around the coast the coast from Landβs End. --> Barely anyone was familiar with the charms of Porthgwarra until the BBCβs 2015 series of Poldark put it on the map. Whilst it is still relatively quiet, due to its off the beaten track location, it will be a long time before it returns to obscurity. The beach here comprises of a narrow strip of sand between boulders and granite cliffs. The beach sits at the bottom of a steep slipway - a throwback to when Porthgwarra was a busy fishing village. Now only one boat regularly works crab pots from here. One of the most interesting features of the cove are the tunnels which have been cut into the rocks leading to the slipway. Whilst swimming close to shore is relatively safe, there are strong currents further out so care should be taken.
π‘ Our Take
Porthgwarra Beach in Cornwall! We at DogParkUK think it's a gem. Dogs are welcome year-round, which is fantastic, and the sand is perfect for digging paws. Parking is available, but can be limited, so arrive early. There aren't many facilities right on the beach, so pack everything you need. Be mindful of strong currents when swimming; it's best for confident dogs. This secluded cove offers a relatively calm environment, making it ideal for older dogs or those who are slightly anxious and prefer a less crowded space where they can roam freely. Ensure they're supervised though; cliffs surround the beach!
