About This Place
Porth Ysgaden is a small, sheltered cove on the north coast of the Llŷn Peninsula. It’s a quiet, lesser-known spot, popular with kayakers, snorkellers and anglers thanks to its calm, clear water and easy access to the sea. The beach itself is a mix of sand, shingle and flat rocks with a small slipway and remnants of old stone structures from its history as a trading port. --> The cove sits in a natural inlet with low headlands on either side, giving it a sense of protection and stillness even on windier days. Historically, this was a working harbour where iron, sugar, tea, salt, clothing, tobacco, coal and other cargo was shipped in and out to Liverpool. It’s a peaceful place, with very little in the way of modern development. There are no shops, cafés or toilets, just open sea, stone walls and grassy fields nearby. You’ll find limited parking close to the water, which makes it especially convenient for launching small boats, kayaks or paddle boards. Porth Ysgaden is part of a rugged, scenic coastline that includes several other small coves. The water quality is generally good, and the surrounding area is rich in wildlife, with plenty of seabirds and marine life around the rocks and headlands.
💡 Our Take
Nestled in the picturesque Gwynedd, Porth Ysgaden Beach is a hidden gem that welcomes dogs all year round, making it a haven for every type of canine—from playful puppies to gentle giants. With its golden, soft sand, it's perfect for frolicking paws and wagging tails. While there are no official facilities, the serene surroundings provide an unspoiled retreat, and parking is conveniently close. Although swimming is generally safe, be cautious during high tides. Ideal for adventurous explorers, it offers an unhurried escape where dogs can bask in nature's beauty. DogParkUK highly recommends Porth Ysgaden for a memorable seaside adventure.
