Porth Ychain Beach
📍 Pwllheli, Gwynedd
About This Place
Porth Ychain is a small cove, tucked away on the north coast of the Llyn Peninsula. Set just over the headland from the wide sandy bay at Penllech, it isn’t difficult to reach on foot. An old cart track leads down to the beach making it quite easy to access. --> The name Porth Ychain is welsh for ‘Oxen beach’. This could relate to an old story about thirteen cows that ended up here from Tŷ Mawr Penllech. More interesting is the tale of the ship that ran aground here. Carrying a load of rum, there was no one on board, only a live pig and a clock still ticking in a cabin. It is said that the log book had been neatly completed for the day before.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a perfect doggy day out in Wales? DogParkUK suggests Porth Ychain Beach! This Anglesey gem welcomes dogs year-round, meaning happy pups can enjoy the sandy shores whatever the season. While detailed information is limited, the "no restrictions" tag suggests fantastic freedom for your furry friend. Parking details are scarce, so plan ahead. Remember, beach safety is paramount; always be mindful of tides and currents before letting your dog swim. This beach is potentially brilliant for dogs that love a good run and confident swimmers. Perhaps less suited to very small puppies. Enjoy!
