Porth Iago Beach
π Pwllheli, Gwynedd
About This Place
The sandy little west-facing cove of Porth Iago is one of the best to be found on the Llyn Peninsula. Flanked by the low grassy headlands of Dinas and Graig Ddu the beach here is fairly sheltered making it a great spot for a dip in the clear blue waters. --> The rocks on the northern side of the beach are a popular spot for fishing and bass can be caught here. Porth Iago is accessible from one of the newest sections of the Wales Coast Path via a scramble down the dunes. The other access is via a private farm track leading to the car park, although this has been closed from time to time. Overlooking the beach is an ancient hill fort lookout
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly beach in Wales? DogParkUK recommends Porth Iago Beach! This beautiful sandy cove welcomes dogs all year round, making it a perfect off-season escape. While facilities are limited, the freedom for your furry friend to roam makes it worth it. Parking can be tight, so arrive early. Swim safety needs to be assessed personally as there are no lifeguards. This sheltered beach is brilliant for puppies getting used to the sea and calmer dogs who enjoy smaller waves, but always keep a close eye as currents *can* be present!
