About This Place

Porth Cwyfan, also known as Church Bay, is something of a hidden gem, tucked away on Holy Island’s south coast. Located near the village of Aberffraw, it is best known for the tiny whitewashed church of St Cwyfan, which stands alone on a tidal island just offshore. Surrounded by a stone sea wall and cut off at high tide, the church gives the bay a wealth of atmosphere. --> The beach itself is made up of small crescent of sand and shingle with rocky outcrops. It’s a peaceful, low-key spot, more commonly frequented by walkers and photographers rather than sun bathers or swimmers. The surrounding headland and coastal path offer wide views and good opportunities for birdwatching, especially in the quieter months. There are no facilities at the beach, i.e. toilets, cafés or parking directly on site, so visiting requires a bit of planning. There is a barely drivable track down to the beach, but there isn’t really any designated parking. But this is what helps keep it special.

💡 Our Take

Porth Cwyfan Beach, a hidden gem in Anglesey, is a brilliant year-round escape for your canine companion. The sandy stretch offers plenty of room for boundless zoomies, and with no restrictions, letting your dog enjoy the freedom is bliss! Parking’s available nearby, but amenities are limited, so bring water! Swim safety isn't guaranteed, watch the tides carefully. This is paw-fect for larger dogs that love a good run, or even confident puppies eager to explore. Owners of anxious dogs will appreciate its relative quietness. A top tip: Always double-check tide times before setting off – some areas become inaccessible. Pawfect indeed!
