Port Mulgrave Beach
π Loftus, Yorkshire
About This Place
Hard to believe this little sand and rock beach was once a thriving port. This diminutive, now derelict, harbour used to be where ironstone from local pits was shipped up to Jarrow for processing. --> These days there are still plenty of reminders of the beaches history. These include the mouth of a large tunnel which runs deep into the cliff, although now it is bricked up. There is more ancient history at Port Mulgrave too- the beach and cliffs are rich in fossils.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a relaxed dog-friendly beach in Yorkshire? DogParkUK recommends Port Mulgrave Beach! Itβs paw-some because dogs are welcome ALL year round to enjoy its sandy shores. Parking is limited, so arrive early! While amenities are scarce nearby, the peaceful location makes it great off-season. The swimming can be tricky due to currents, so keep a close eye on your furry friends, especially smaller breeds. Best suited for dogs who love rock pooling as well as swimming. A tip for anxious dogs. The beach opens out slowly and is relatively sheltered - so they will feel safe.
