Porlock Weir Beach
π Minehead, Somerset
About This Place
The long pebble and rock beach at Porlock Weir is popular for bathing in summer, and offers excellent angling opportunities. During the winter the beach here can also be one of the best surf spots in the area. --> Outside of the village, the beach is backed by a marshland that contains an abundance of wildlife and makes the area popular for bird watchers. The South West Coastal Path passes the beach and offers excellent views out over the Bristol Channel and of the surrounding mountainous countryside and Exmoor Heritage Coast, which happens to be of particular geological and archaeological significance. Parking is available in the small village of Porlock Weir, with direct access to the beach. Public toilets can also be found in the car park. The picturesque village, with its thatched roofed buildings contains a good selection of cafes, restaurants, shops and places to stay. It boasts a small fishing harbour, and a medieval manor house serves as a museum portraying the history of the village.
π‘ Our Take
Here at DogParkUK, we highly recommend Porlock Weir Beach! Tucked away on the Exmoor coast, this beach welcomes dogs all year round with no restrictions. The sand is mixed with pebbles, perfect for exploring. Parking is available nearby, though it can get busy. While the beach itself has limited facilities, Porlock Weir village offers charming shops and cafes. The sea is generally calm, but always supervise your dog, especially if they're eager swimmers. Porlock Weir is ideal for energetic dogs who love a good run, but perhaps less suitable for very tiny puppies due to the pebbles.
