About This Place
This area of sand dunes, overlooking a large expanse of sand, is to be found on the western side of the River Dee Estuary.Β --> The dunes here form part of an RSPB nature reserve, which is popular with bird watchers, especially during the winter months.Β These dunes also provide a habitat for a rare breed of natterjack toad and the site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Set mid-beach, the Point of Ayr lighthouse, built in 1776 and now redundant, provides a good photo opportunity.Β The closest car park to the beach is at the north-eastern end of Station Road.Β There are a number of caravan parks in the immediate vicinity.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly beach in Wales? We recommend Point of Ayr Beach, Talacre! Your dog can enjoy sandy stretches year-round, perfect for energetic pups. Parking is available nearby, but facilities are limited so pack accordingly. While the sea's inviting, be mindful of currents for your dogβs swim safety. The expansive space makes it ideal for big dogs who love a run or those still working on recall. Our tip? The beach can be windswept; so bring a dog-friendly coat for colder days. This Welsh gem is a definite tail-wagger!
