About This Place
Pink Bay lies at the far western end of Rest Bay in Porthcawl, just distant enough out of reach to keep it off most people’s radar. Still, the beach attracts walkers, surfers and wildlife enthusiasts, with its steep pebble bank leading down to soft, golden sand. --> In case you’re wondering where the name comes from - at the top of the beach, the rocks have a distinctive pink marbling effect when caught in the right light. Pink Bay beach can be reached via a 15-minute walk along a coastal boardwalk from Rest Bay, passing alongside Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. This modest walk keeps it quieter than other beaches in the area, adding to its appeal. However, there are no toilets or amenities. At low tide, you can walk over to the memorial to the crew of the Mumbles Lifeboat and the SS Samtampa, a 7,000-ton steamship wrecked off nearby Sker Point in 1947. The site is a reminder of the area’s maritime history and adds depth to the location’s character.
