Peterhead Lido Beach
π Peterhead, Aberdeenshire
About This Place
Peterhead Lido is a thin strip of sandy beach located within Peterhead Bay Marina, itself within the larger Peterhead Harbour. --> Although it is possible to swim here, and despite the name, this is not a swimming pool, but an area of water within the bay, sectioned off from the rest of the bay by two breakwaters. Unsurprisingly, the beach is popular for watersports including sailing and windsurfing. It is overlooked by a large car park, with a road leading down directly to the beach. Plenty of dog bins are provided. A small caravan park also overlooks the beach. The harbour continues to thrive to this day mainly because of the industrial activity connected to the gas and oil plants nearby. The town of Peterhead was originally founded as a fishing centre, and an important fishing industry survives here to this day. The town centre can be found about half a mile north of the beach and offers visitors a selection of shops, places to eat, and places to stay. The Peterhead Prison Museum, where one of Britainβs toughest prisons operated between the years of 1888 and 2013, is a short walk from the beach, and makes an interesting detour.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly beach in Aberdeenshire? Check out Peterhead Lido Beach! This sandy spot welcomes dogs year-round, perfect for zoomies and tail wags no matter the season. While facilities nearby are limited, Peterhead town is just a short drive away. Parking can be tricky, especially on sunny days, so arrive early. Swim safety is your responsibility here; be mindful of currents! Lido Beach is brilliant for confident swimmers and big dogs who love a good run. Perhaps not ideal for nervous pups due to potential waves. Remember to bring fresh water for your four-legged friend!
