About This Place

Pentraeth beach forms one of a few access points to the wide sandy Red Wharf Bay on the north-eastern side of Anglesey. The shoreline is a mixture of sandy stretches, shingle and a the odd rock. Much of the beach is backed by low sand dunes which are home to some interesting flora including the pyramidal orchid. --> Red Wharf Bay is a designated nature reserve with areas of salt marsh and extensive flats which attract various waterfowl such as purple sandpipers, curlew, shelduck and dunlin. At low tide the whole bay empties with the sea receding and the sand stretching off into the distance. The tide can come in quickly once it has turned so care should be taken not to find yourself cut off if you stray too far from the coast. The beach at Pentraeth has good access with (free) parking practically on the beach itself. There is also a slipway which all make it particularly easy to get onto the sand.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Pentraeth Beach, nestled in Anglesey, is a sandy haven for dogs year-round. The gentle tide and welcoming sands make perfect play conditions for puppies and big dogs alike. Convenient parking ensures easy access, with additional facilities a short drive away. The open stretch of beach allows for uninhibited running, which is particularly great for energetic breeds. Be mindful of occasional slippery rocks near the waterline and keep an eye on wave conditions for safe swims. Whether you're searching for a place to introduce anxious dogs to the beach or let a pack of pups loose, Pentraeth's expansive shore won't disappoint.
