Penmaenmawr Beach
📍 Conwy, Gwynedd
About This Place
With the foothills of Snowdonia behind this long sandy beach looks out over the Menai Straits and coast of Anglesey, as well as Puffin Island and Llandudno’s Great Orme. The beach is sandy at low tide, while the upper bay is a combination of pebble and sand. The beach stretches for over half a mile, and the outer edges are marked by rocks and coastal defences. The beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path and the coastal waters here are part of the Menai Strait and Conwy Bay Special Area of Conservation. --> Amidst the landscaped terraces with the grassy areas and flower borders there are amusement arcades and beach chalets to hire, as well as a café and an attractive promenade. The west end of the promenade has plenty of parking and wheelchair access to the beach is good. It is possible to hire beach huts. There’s a play area for children and an outdoor paddling area next to the promenade. Other activities include canoeing, sailing, and windsurfing. There is no lifeguard service at this beach. Dogs are not allowed on the main beach from 1 May to 30 September, including the foreshore and seashore, and any staircase or slope that leads to the beach. At low tide, dogs can be let off the lead for exercise on clearly marked areas of sand to either side of the beach.
💡 Our Take
Nestled in Conwy, Penmaenmawr Beach is a canine paradise with a welcoming atmosphere for dogs year-round. This expansive sandy beach invites playful paws across its golden shore, perfect for big dogs to stretch their legs and anxious pups to find peace in its serenity. Convenient parking is available nearby, with facilities close at hand to ensure an effortless adventure. The gentle waves provide a safe haven for cooling off, though we recommend cautious supervision due to occasional tidal changes. Penmaenmawr is a dog lover's haven where a frolicking day at the beach is just a paw print away.
