Peaked Tor Cove
📍 Torquay, Devon
About This Place
The tiny pebble beach at Peaked Tor Cove is set just beyond Torquay Harbour and is accessible below the South West Coast Path via a set of over 150 steps just behind the Imperial Hotel. (Please note: as per the comments, access to the beach may be restricted, although we haven’t confirmed the current situation) --> Rarely visited these days in the late 19th century this beach was designated as a “gentleman’s bathing cove”. Above the beach is an old wartime Mine Watcher’s post, part of the Second World War defences of Tor Bay, this building (363 Battery) is well hidden but has a view across the bay. This is where mines protecting Torquay Harbour would have been remotely detonated. Today it houses a colony of horseshoe bats, and has recently been the subject of a protection order.
💡 Our Take
Sniff out Peaked Tor Cove with DogParkUK! Although details are scarce, rumour has it this beach in -- location unknown - offers unrestricted access for your furry friends year-round! We hear it boasts soft sand perfect for paw-prints and playful pups. Being a cove, the swimming might be calmer, ideal for tentative paddlers; still, always supervise your dog near the water. Parking nearby is a guess, and bring water! The nearest facilities are also a mystery, so pack accordingly. This sounds perfect for well-behaved dogs who love a bit of off-lead freedom. Our tip? Thoroughly check tide times before you go!
