π Colwyn Bay, Gwynedd
About This Place
Old Colwyn Beach lies at the far eastern end of the long promenade that runs along Colwyn Bay. This sandy section of beach is often less busy than elsewhere along the bay. The beach here is popular for swimming and water sports, with Colwyn Bay watersports club located at the western end of the beach. It is also the most dog-friendly section of the Colwyn Bay area, with dogs allowed on the eastern section throughout the year, whilst they are banned during the summer further westward. --> The promenade behind the beach has both cycling and walking tracks. A variety of seabirds frequent the area, and occasionally, seals and dolphins can be spotted in the surf. Note that at high tide, the beach is completely submerged. Parking is available towards the western end of the beach along the promenade, where there is also a kiosk. The beach can be accessed via a slipway or stairs. More facilities can be found in the town centre, a few hundred meters inland. The Victorian resort town of Colwyn Bay is about half a mile west of the beach and has a railway station and a variety of attractions including the Welsh Mountain Zoo and Dinosaur World.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a fuss-free beach day in beautiful North Wales? Old Colwyn Beach is a hidden gem! Your doggos are welcome on the sand year-round, perfect for zoomies and digging. It's mostly sand, great for paws, but check tide times as it shrinks at high tide. Parking is easy along the promenade. The nearest cafΓ© is a short stroll, so pack water! The sea is generally calm, but always supervise your dog's swimming. This beach is a dream for energetic pups who love exploring, but might not be ideal for nervous dogs needing quieter spaces, as it can get busy!
